Revolution No. 9 (DVD) James Jackson (Michael Risley) is a handsome 27-year-old New Yorker suffering from an increasingly serious case of psychotic paranoia. He is presented in extreme close-up, with no room to breathe, by director Tim McCann, who keeps the intensity of REVOLUTION NO. 9 on a high level to its very last second. Jackson's fiancee, Kim Kelly (Adrienne Shelly), a perky blond waitress in a chic downtown bar, is so utterly in love with him despite his frightful mental deterioration, that she also seems crazy. In fact, much of the movie is a puzzle over who's really losing it--him, her, or both of them at once. It all begins when Jackson announces to Kim's family that they are engaged to be married. One Hour Photo/Don't Say a Word 2-Pack (DVD) ONE HOUR PHOTO: Viewed through our photographs, it would seem we have lived a joyous, leisurely existence. Sy Parrish (Robin Williams), who makes this observation, adversely leads a lonely life, operating a photo lab in a SavMart department store. He escapes his dreary reality through the family photos of Nancy Yorkin (Connie Nielsen) family jackson madness memory values and her family. His admiration of the Yorkins becomes an obsession, as he fashions himself as Uncle Sy to little Jake (Dylan Smith). Sy's judgment becomes impaired by his unhealthy interest, causing him to lose his job of 11 years. As his final day approaches, Sy develops photographs revealing an indiscretion on the part of Mr. Yorkin (Michael Vartan). The unstable Sy now develops a disturbing, calculated plan to instill family values to the Yorkin clan. Much of ONE HOUR PHOTO takes place inside a department store similar to a Wal-Mart, bordered in an icy blue. This cold atmosphere creates a solitary framework for the disturbed photo developer Sy Parrish, played with a melancholic detachment by Williams, working here against type. Director Mark Romanek (STATIC) has created a thriller with little violence. Instead, it is permeated with an uncomfortable fear emanating from its damaged protagonist. DON'T SAY A WORD: When psychiatrist Nathan Conrad discovers that his daughter has been kidnapped, the only way he can get her back is to pry critical information from the mind of a seriously disturbed teenager with a secret stuck deep in a blocked memory.
